In spite of the fact that chiropractic care has been well established for decades, there are still myths that persist about it, especially related to the chiropractic adjustment. Also known as ‘spinal adjustment,’ the process of providing chiropractic care via realignment of the spine is simple yet also complex and can be intimidating to those who are skeptical. A chiropractic adjustment can be described as the simple process of realigning the vertebrae of the spine; but in practice, accomplishing the task requires years of training and the development of expertise. The staff of St. Paul Chiropractic & Natural Medicine has done the hard work necessary to provide safe and effective chiropractic treatment to each of our clients.
How Does a Spinal Adjustment Work?
As an anatomical structure, and when looked at from a distance, the spine can be described as a simple structural component that allows the human body to stand upright, to walk and run, and to accomplish a great many other complex actions. When a problem arises with the spine, however, it becomes clear just how complex a mechanism it is. The spine is supported by a network of muscles and maintaining balance in these components can be difficult. If one or more vertebrae become misaligned, the muscles that support the spine will be under great stress. As a result, pain can be experienced in those muscles, despite the fact that the root of the problem is the misalignment of the spine.
It is also possible for pain to be experienced in the spinal structure itself. This is especially true when the misalignment of the affected vertebrae pinch the disks in between the bony structures. Compression of one or more disks is painful. If the compression leads to a rupturing of the disk, the pain can be excruciating and debilitating. Our team can help clients anywhere they find themselves on the injury and pain spectrum.
